works great in WI (Jesse, July 7, 2009)

never had a problem

HPRB07XC7 strongpoints and faults

Rating: Noise a two star; draining a two star; working to cool the room since it is a 7,000 BTU unit and I used it to cool via dehumidifying, I rate that a 5 star. I too found it noisy and I found that in the long run I prefer to run it in dehumifier mode. However, the water drain hose barely stuck out as it should have been longer so it would have been easier to hook the hose that I had to purchase from somewhere else to the unit. A drain hose should have been included with the unit, particularly when sold in Florida a very humid atmosphere. Emptying the bucket is work. If the water had been draining from near the top gravity would have sent it down but since the drain is near the bottom and the unit is about 2 inches off the floor, it makes finding a drain pan for such a low space difficult!

Works Really Well

This unit was not only inexpensive (about $300), but it does the job very well.
Easy to operate and easy to assemble.
Liked the digital controls.
It's noisy when the compressor turns on, but if you can't use a window AC, this works fine.

Should Return it

This doesn't even cool a small bedroom.
Okay, it was easy to install.

Looks Good and Works Good

Good bang for the buck. Like the design. Performs very well.
It's small and easy to assemble.
Controls make sense. Noise level is okay.

Window installation kit is badly designed.

Gets the job done

The manual was badly-worded, the vent hose /exhaust system was weird and took some time to put together and install, and the window kit doesn't work with really tall windows. It's a bit on the noisy side when the compressor kicks in. Even during a heat wave (California - so not too humid) I ran it 24/7 for days and didn't have to empty any bucket or drain any water - it did self-evaporate well.

Used it in a 300 square foot room quite well.

Does require drainage, and it's loud

The box said the unit was self-evaporating and doesn't need to be drained but that's not true, it does need to be drained. I hooked up a rubber drain hose I bought at Home Depot. You can only adjust the air flow to the sides, not vertically. Also, you have to be able to put up with loud, continuous noise of this unit!

Installation was difficult and unit is loud

I had to use duct tape to attach the vent hose to the window kit, but eventually got it to work. Also, even on its lowest fan setting, it's loud, louder than I expected it to be

Pleasantly surprised

I didn't pay much for this unit, just $279. The most important thing to me was the dehumidifier function which works well. It cooled my bedroom down from 100 degrees down to 70.

Draining is laborous

This product was advertised by Haier in a way that made us believe we wouldn't have to drain it. However, we need to drain it often and that is a lot of work. We raised the unit and put a shallow bowl under it to catch more water so we don't have to drain it as often.
